Hi Guys,

Just confirming that the Sports37 Shoot will be pushing through tomorrow, Nov. 29, from 5-8pm. Sports37 is a sports program from the UNTV network. They will be shooting footage for a full feature showcasing our club. No word yet as to when it will be shown, but hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

If you plan on going tomorrow, please be at Arena early, and make sure you have changed into proper attire before 5pm.

Hi Guys,

I'm disabling the Calendar Function for now. I can't seem to get it to function properly, i.e. it keeps on presenting the wrong time zone. So things look weird when you look at the time displayed. Once I fix it I'll get it up on the site again.

Hi guys,

There are a few events coming up leading to Christmas and the holidays. Please be informed and prepare for these.

1) Sports37 Film Shoot, Monday, 5-8pm, November 29, 2010 (tentatively) -

Yep, another TV show wants to film our practice. Sports37 is a sports show that airs out of the UNTV Network. There has been some negotiations about this, and the tentative date of the shooting is on Monday, November 29. Stay tuned to get more information on this upcoming event, and we hope that you can join us when it does happen.

2) Hera-Ken and IGA-Ken Joint practice, Saturday, 1-5pm, December 4, 2010 -

There will be another joint Hera-Ken and IGA-Ken practice on December 4. We arranged for a slightly longer practice sked, so please take note of this if you're going to practice on that day.

3) IGA-Ken Christmas Party, Saturday, December 18, 2010 -

The Christmas Party is scheduled for December 18, and the venue is going to be Sempai Alain Duminy's house in North Greenhills. This will be right after the scheduled practice that day. Aside from this, there are no details yet, so please check for more details in the upcoming weeks.

Hi Guys,

The 58th All Japan Kendo Championships will be held next Wednesday, November 3, 2010. This tournament is easily one of the most, if not the most, prestigious kendo events held during the year, gathering together some of the best kendoka in Japan.

There is a good article on who's participating this year on the Kendo World Forums. They have also promised to upload videos on their youtube account as soon as they can make it available. There are also rumors that the All Japan Kendo Federation will be streaming the event on the internet, a first in the history of the championships if ever. Another way of catching it is if you have access to NHK, they usually show at least the semi finals and finals.

Personally, I'm a bit disappointed that Shoudai is not participating this year. No exciting jodan style kendo to watch. However it would be exciting to see if Uchimura can actually win his 3rd Championship in five outings.

Hi Guys,

Over the past few weeks, we (being myself, Igarashi Sensei, Allan Sempai, and Neil Sensei) have been meeting on the future of IGA Kendo Club (and also the UP Kendo Club too). Basically we have come to the decision that it is no longer feasible for the club to continue subsidizing the donations of the UP student members. As such we will be collecting monthly donations from you guys, though substantially discounted. This will start November.

Donations will break down as follows:

1) For new members, a one time joining joining donation of P500.00 . Note: For current members, this is the equivalent of the Shipping Donation you should have given for the bogu shipment.

2) Monthly donation of P50.00.

3) Bogu use donation of P100.00 per month.

Please take note and prepapre accordingly.

Hi Guys,

We are setting a tentative Monday Schedule of practices for the month of November. It will be from 7-9pm in the evening, starting November 8, 2010.  Venue will still be Arena.

Format of practice will be a condensed version of Saturdays, with more focus on kihon. Unfortunately it will be unlikely that Igarashi-Sensei will be able to make it to this class, but we do hope that the sempai leading the practices will be good substitutes.

Now bear in mind that this is a test bed for the feasibility of Monday practice schedules. If it seems that only a few people can make it, then we will probably not continue with it.

Sorry for the lack of recent updates, but things have been keeping me busy.

Anyway, first and foremost congratulations to all those who passed the BOGU EXAM last Saturday! And to those who didn't quite pass or were not able to take the exam, don't worry. You'll have another chance soon.

Secondly, the BOGU PARTY will this Saturday. Please check both the forum and calendar entry lists for more information. Remember to RSVP if you are going.
